Notes of a Visual Journeyman

My earliest pictures were taken with an iPhone 4. In my junior year in high school, my dad bought me an SLR camera, Canon T3i. This generous gift helped me capture the world around me the way that I envision it in my mind. I like to photograph everyday things - objects that are considered “simple” or “boring” - and try to look at them from a different perspective. I set up the frame very carefully and precisely, often zooming in and getting as much of the fine, minute details as I can. Capturing an image is not only about the end product but the lengths I go to accomplish my goal. It's sometimes a tiring and challenging process, but when I finally manage to create what I want, the rewarding feeling I get makes it worth it.

My love for photography stems from my appreciation for architecture. One of my favorite things to photograph are buildings that I see around the city. I am inspired by architectural photographer, Julius Shulman. Watching a documentary about him and seeing his photographs pushed me to follow my passion for photography and architecture. The way Julius Shulman takes a photo of a building captures all the beautiful aspects and details of the structure which makes the viewer immediately “fall in love” with the picture and want to share it with other people. As I go around the city taking photographs, I keep his style in the back of my mind.
